red and gold

if you celebrate lunar new year, i hope you had a wonderful celebration. wishing you all good fortune, health and luck! my mother would tell us stories about how she and her sisters would get new dresses for new year; the house would be decorated with flowers and lanterns; and they cooked for days. traditionally, decorations are red and gold, which are auspicious colours.

it is important for us that the boys learn about their heritages, especially since they have two rich ones. the kids love that they get to celebrate new year twice, see the lion/dragon dance and lucky money - of course! i'll be wearing lots of red in the next few days - pairing it with gold is a luxurious combination and makes following tradition easy! finally, thanks alexis at JCA for posting the sale code for j. crew's extra 30% final sale items (STYLE30)

outfit - blazers: both j. crew, similar here, here; shirt: tory burch lidia long sleeve polo, here, christmas gift from I, skirt: blythe wool skirt, marc by marc jacobs, similar here, here; tights: joe fresh; booties: adrienne vittadini, old

  14. I love the red on you, P! I bet the stories that your mom tells you are so special. I love hearing about other people's cultures. I had tea with my friend on Saturday before she flew home to China to celebrate the new year and she was telling me about some of the fun (and interesting!) traditions. :)
