as i get older, my younger sense of invincibility has been replaced with a woman who will now consider ways to either stall or fool father time. here are a few things that i love and are easy to use (my lifestyle/personality can't do complex or time consuming). i'd love to hear about your make-up buys!
the dewy glow. i just got this chanel poudre signée de chanel illuminating powder (here). i prefer highlighters over bronzers because bronzers make my face look dirty. but does it work? yes, it does. i see a lovely glow and it brightens my face. my gorgeous friend at plasticdoughnut has this too, and found it gave her beautiful glow (check out her review and her gorgeous makeup. and bags. and shoes. here). before this, i'd been using the MAC wonder woman collection mineralize skinfinish and smashbox softlights powder. i look for pallettes that have golds and pinks and avoid coppers and browns which don't suit my skin tone.
hiding the bags. my best make-up discovery was hands-down this bobbi brown concealer. long days and late nights with work made for bags under the eyes that are as big as shopping bags. pat the concealer on with your finger, instead of rubbing it so it will last longer. it takes seconds to do, so no excuses! best. invention. ever. this or my other go-to, YSL's touche eclat, i can pretend that i had 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep.
it starts with good skincare. when i was younger, my mother used to tell me to wash and moisturize regularly. i used to ignore her rabidly thinking she had bought into the marketing doom and gloom hype of cosmetics companies. then i started getting older. and, um, she's in her 60s now and looks ah-mazing. i hope she passed along those genes to me! now, i wash my face every night and moisturize. last year, my husband got me the clarisonic system. the system comes with different brush heads and i liked the sensitive brush. i sometimes get 2 small little patches of redness on my cheeks that look like i'm flushed but i'm not. i don't want to irritate or exacerbate that. i use the system 2 times a week with a mild facial soap. it has really helped perk up my skin. i have now replaced the sensitive brushes with the blue brush head ("delicate"), which is even softer than the sensitive skin brush. if you are planning to use this and have sensitive skin, i'd recommend simply getting the delicate one instead of using the ones in the package.

Great reviews! I have never used Bobbi Brown before, and am always looking for good products, so thanks for the information! Do you prefer it over the YSL?
ReplyDeleteyou're very welcome WMM!!
Deletei find that on some days the YSL alone isn't enough to cover the bags under my eyes. i start with the bobbi brown and the YSL goes over it to brighten the eye area.
awesome review. I am so curious about the concealer and in desperate need of a good one. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteyou're welcome! i really like this bobbi brown concealer - another good one is laura mercier.
Deletelove that BB concealer too! you have convinced me to order the chanel illuminating powder!
ReplyDeleteyay! i hope you enjoy it. i've really liked the powder, and have gotten compliments since i started using it.
Deletei love my clairsonic - its awesome!
ReplyDeleteagreed! it's really a good workhorse!
DeleteI need the chanel powder. I don't like bronzer either so this seems to be a must have.
ReplyDeletei have really enjoyed it a lot!
DeleteI love that Bobbi Brown product. I think I used to get it in the two-on-top-of-each-other stacked compact, but I like the side-by-side format a lot more now!
ReplyDeleteagreed - it's much more user-friendly that way! xox
