you probably don't need another "blogger-in-a-change-room-with-a-blackberry-picture-taking-clothing-review", but these sizing and quality reviews help me a lot when i read them on other blogs. i thought i'd share this given that these are new arrivals for fall work outfits. i was looking in banana republic and the gap, seeing BR's roster of suiting dresses in recent emails. it seems a few other shoppers had the same idea - most of the sizes in dresses were picked over already. (likely the 20% off code was an incentive: BSPECIAL20 for online orders - expires August 13th)
julie belted sheath - they had nothing in petite sizing remotely close to what i need, so i tried on the 0 regular to see how it fit. the torso of the regular sized dress was too long and hit my waist too low. there was a lot of the cowl neck material foofing about. i hope going to a petite size will help with that excess material. i'm not sure that the neckline will look like what is on the model, however. the colour in real life looks a lot like the picture. overall, the dress is very pretty in construction and colour. the regular size is also quite long, so i'll definitely need to get the 2P.
lyla crepe dress: this dress was in the store in a full run of sizes except the 2P or 0. that was most inconvenient! i am wearing the 0P which surprisingly, did not make me feel like i was a sausage. for a petite dress, it was still quite long, and went a bit past my knees. if i were to get this dress, 2P would have been the way to go (so TTS). the dress is also a lovely crepe material, but i felt it did nothing for me. i felt frumpy in this dress, as i often do wearing anything a-line. this cut just doesn't suit my figure. it is a pass for me, but if this style suits you, consider it. the red is stunning - a true red and therefore versatile for day to night.
print silk tie blouse - again, no petite available for me to try on so i got the regular 0 in it. the fit overall is okay in the body, but with the regular size, the top is cut pretty low and is quite long. for petites, i'd say definitely get the petite sizing or you'll have to wear a camisole underneath for propriety's sake, which defeats the tie detail part of the blouse. i'm not sure i'm a fan of the print, which has the BR logo all over it.

The color of 1st dress is so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI'm not so fan of BR logos everywhere though
thank you SS - i really loved the colour! ya, the more i think of it, the less i like the blouse print. xox P

DeleteI really like these types of posts because it helps me gauge how items will fit. I really LOVE that purple dress on you! Yah, I'm not feeling the B/R logo on the top, but from far away, it looks really pretty. Also, I'm sure they're not B/R, but I LOVE your jeans in the last photo! Can I ask where they're from?

DeleteLove the gorgeous dresses. I quite like the way they are cut. Also like to blouse, I don't mind the BR logo, but that is probably because I don't know the brand all that well. :)
ReplyDeletethank you BB!! it's pretty discrete as far as logos go but i'm still not sure about the print. xox P
DeleteI do love it when people do these posts! That purple dress is gorgeous on you!! I have to say that I'm not a fan of the BR logo on that shirt- I hate when companies do that- like they are making me pay to advertise for them. haha
